Liposuction and CoolSculpting Can Get Rid of Stubborn Fat

Liposuction and CoolSculpting Can Get Rid of Stubborn Fat

If you're one of the many people who have resolved to lose weight this year, you may already know that a good diet and an exercise routine are two of the most important steps. Still, neither diet nor exercise alone can rid you of some stubborn fat pockets. If you're struggling to get rid of your problem areas, liposuction and laser weight loss treatments might be a better option.

Oh, That Stubborn Fat

The human body naturally tries to retain fat. It's a survival mechanism from past times when food supplies were unreliable and sometimes unavailable. Body fat carried people through those hard times. In today's world, although access to food isn't a problem, shedding those fat pockets is still a tough job. Dieting helps you lose weight and fat overall, and exercise strengthens and smoothes muscles, but still doesn't affect the overlying fat pads. Areas like the abdomen, thighs, buttocks and under the chin are notorious for retaining fat even after the rest of the body has slimmed down.

Stubborn areas like the abdomen, thighs, buttocks and under the chin hold onto fat pockets

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that was designed specifically to deal with excess fatty deposits. It's not a substitute for proper diet or exercise, but an adjunctive treatment. Once you're within 30 percent of your ideal weight, if you have firm, elastic skin and good muscle tone, you're a candidate for liposuction. The procedure is typically performed in a doctor's office or medical spa. You will receive medications or anesthetics to relieve pain. A thin hollow tube is used to suction out unwanted fat. After the procedure, you'll wear compression bandages or garments to help reshape the area. Results are usually apparent once the swelling goes down and are permanent. Like any surgical procedure, liposuction carries some risks, including infection, poor wound healing and medication or anesthetic complications.

CoolSculpting uses laser technology to freeze fat cells. This noninvasive procedure also can be performed in a doctor's office or medical spa. No medications or anesthesia are required and there is no downtime. You can have a CoolSculpting procedure one day and go back to work the next day. The procedure takes about 60 to 90 minutes. Freezing actually kills the fat cells, which are gradually eliminated by your body. Results become apparent over a period of weeks or months. CoolSculpting is permanent. CoolSculpting works for both men and women, although, like liposuction, it's best if you are within 30 percent of your ideal weight and have good muscle tone and firm, elastic skin. Although safe and effective, CoolSculpting may cause numbness, itching, tingling or mild pain.
