Keeping Your Skin Hydrated Will Give You a Youthful Glow

Did you know that two-thirds of your body consists of water? Well, it's true, and it's the reason why staying hydrated is so important for your health. But making sure you're getting enough H2O each day is beneficial for your skin, too. 

Hydrated Skin is Youthful Skin 

Your skin is an organ made up of millions of cells, which are largely made up of water. Without proper hydration, these cells cannot function properly. 

So what does this mean for your skin? Dehydrated skin will become dry, flaky and tight, making it less resilient and more prone to developing wrinkles. Water helps your skin cells regenerate, keeping your skin looking bright and dewy. 

How to Hydrate Your Skin 

Winter can be pretty harsh on your skin, drying it out and causing it to lose its youthful glow. Now is the perfect time to get your skin hydrated and ready for the warmer summer months. Here are a few ways you can boost your skin's hydration. 

Increase Your Fluid Intake

Drinking the recommended amount of water each day (eight 8-ounce glasses) is one of the best ways to make sure you and your skin stay hydrated. There are also a number of foods you can eat that add to your hydration, such as cucumbers, watermelon, celery, lettuce and strawberries. 

Apply a light moisturizer to your skin as soon as you get out of the bathtub or shower.

Keep in mind, however, that the water you drink/eat is going to flow to your other vital organs first before making it to your skin. 

Moisturize Your Skin

Your skin care routine can provide your skin with optimal hydration from the outside. Ideally, you should apply a light moisturizer to your skin as soon as you get out of the bathtub or shower. This allows your skin to absorb the moisturizer while your skin is still porous and able to accept the moisturizer.

Even if you love the heavy moisturizer you used all winter long, now is the time to change to a lighter moisturizer because a heavy moisturizer is more likely to clog your pores during the warmer weather.

Skin that is moisturized has a fuller and smoother appearance that is ready for the summer weather. Make sure that the moisturizer you use during the day has an SPF suitable to protect your skin from the sun's harsh rays. This can help to decrease damage that can make your skin appear older. 

Remember to Exfoliate

You should also make sure that you exfoliate your skin to remove dead skin cells. This helps to prevent sweat from getting stuck in your pores, which can help you avoid unsightly acne. Exfoliation also helps your skin get that summer-ready glow that is so popular.
