Benefits of Fractional Skin Resurfacing for Stretch Marks

Benefits of Fractional Skin Resurfacing for Stretch Marks

Stretch marks aren’t painful, but they can make you feel self-conscious about your appearance. These marks appear when your skin has been stretched, such as during pregnancy or if you have gained or lost a lot of weight in a short amount of time. While these streaks typically don’t go away entirely, their appearance can be reduced through the use of Fractional Skin Resurfacing

What Is It?

Fractional Skin Resurfacing is a type of noninvasive skin treatment that involves using lasers on cosmetic flaws. This treatment stimulates collagen and elastin production, which leads to smoother skin that has a more youthful appearance. During this procedure, brief light pulses from a laser touch the skin’s surface and become heat energy. This energy helps treat damaged skin while also promoting the production of new skin in the area.

Why Should I Have It Done?

Fractional Skin Resurfacing provides a safe and effective skin treatment that does not require any incisions to be made. This helps reduce risks that are associated with invasive cosmetic procedures, such as excess bleeding or infections. This type of procedure is able to target a specific area of skin rather than being done on skin in a larger area, which helps ensure that healthy skin around stretch marks is not affected. Since this procedure does not involve any incisions, there is also a much shorter recovery time. When you have this procedure done for stretch marks, it does take time to fully heal, but you are generally able to go about your normal activities.

Are There Any Risks?

Although Fractional Skin Resurfacing is typically safe, there are certain side effects that might occur. These include swelling, tenderness, redness and skin irritation. Redness can last for several weeks as your skin heals, but most other side effects last for a much shorter period of time. Before you decide to have this procedure done, ask about any risks or side effects that you are concerned about. This procedure does not usually cause discomfort, although some people experience a slight stinging sensation from the lasers. This is generally a mild and temporary sensation.

How Effective Is It?

This will depend on a number of factors, such as how severe your stretch marks are, how much skin they cover and what type of skin you have in general. Longer streaks or streaks with more severe discoloration might require more treatment sessions before fading. Keep in mind that protecting the affected area from sun exposure afterward is also important. Being in the sun might limit the effectiveness of resurfacing.
