Fraxel® Isn't Just Great for Wrinkles on Your Face!

Fraxel® Isn't Just Great for Wrinkles on Your Face!

The skin on your face is the most visible on a daily basis, so most people are quick to notice wrinkles, age spots and sun damage. However, other areas may also develop these problems, especially the hands, neck and chest, which often receive just as much sun exposure as the face. Tate MediSpa wants you to know that solutions to this problem are available – one of the best is treatment with the Fraxel laser.

Why is Fraxel® a Good Choice?

Fraxel utilizes a different kind of technology compared to other lasers. Pinpoint laser beams penetrate beneath the skin surface, treating multiple microscopic areas of skin. Fraxel stimulates the body's natural healing process. This laser treatment is very precise and can be used to treat wrinkles, acne and surgical scars, sun-damaged skin and age spots on the face, neck, chest, arms, hands, legs and back. It may also be helpful for some kinds of melasma (dark skin that often results during pregnancy).

What's the Procedure Like?

A topical cream that numbs the skin is used before the treatment, and cold air is blown onto the skin during the procedure to help reduce any discomfort. The laser is then moved slowly over the treatment area (you'll wear goggles to protect your eyes). Most people report a feeling similar to a sunburn for several hours after the treatment. It helps to apply ice and keep the treated area well moisturized. Some people also report minor itching, dry skin, bronzing, minor flaking or peeling of the skin.

What About Skin Care?

You should use only approved skin care products for the first week or two after a Fraxel treatment. To protect the treated areas, apply a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or more at least twenty minutes before you go outside. Use a non-irritating and non-clogging moisturizer. Don't use other treatments like bleaching, scrubs, Retinol or toners, as your skin will be more sensitive than usual for at least a week. Fraxel treatments can last as long as a year if you take good care of your skin; annual maintenance treatments may be necessary.

Fraxel® Results

Once the initial healing is complete, you can expect your skin to look brighter and feel softer; the skin tone will begin to even out. Over the next three to six months, new collagen develops in the deeper layers of skin, and the skin continues to improve. Each patient shows different results, but in most cases, three to five treatments are necessary for optimum results. The treatments are usually spaced four to six weeks apart. The results can be very long-lasting if you take good care of your skin, although age, lifestyle and the initial condition of your skin all play a part as well.

If you would like to have younger-appearing skin, please contact Tate MediSpa for an appointment. We can assess your situation and make recommendations for the best combination of treatment strategies. Don't let sun damage and wrinkles make you look older than you feel.
